DRB-HICOM UNIVERSITY HOLDS SIXTH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

686 graduates, including first batch of degree holders

PEKAN, Saturday, 7 December, 2019 – DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia (“DRB-HICOM U”), Malaysia’s first automotive university, today celebrated the graduation of 686 students, and awarded its top achievers at  its  sixth convocation ceremony held at its campus in Pekan, Pahang.

The ceremony was graced by the Chancellor of DRB-HICOM U, His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah.

This year’s convocation also marks the graduation of the first batch of DRB-HICOM U’s homegrown Bachelor’s and Postgraduate degree programmes. The university presented the certificates to graduands from the following programmes in two sessions:

  • Foundation Programmes: 78 graduands
  • Diploma Programmes: 403 graduands
  • Bachelor’s Degree Programmes: 34 graduands
  • Master’s Degree Programmes: 19 graduands
  • Certified Automotive Trainers (Level 2 & 3): 18 graduands
  • DRB-HICOM Development Programmes Certificates: 134 graduands

As in previous years, DRB-HICOM U also handed out awards to its best students who achieved all-round academic excellence and demonstrated leadership qualities during their studies.

Graduating at the top of the cohorts was Haji Amir Suhaimi Hassan, who received the Chancellor’s Award for his outstanding academic performance and significant contributions to co-curricular activities. Amir, who is the Chief Operating Officer of Pos Digicert Sdn Bhd, scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (“CGPA”) of 3.97 and graduated with a Master of Business Administration (Leadership) under the sponsorship of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd and Pos Malaysia Bhd.

The Vice Chancellor’s Award went to 21 year old Noor Ikma Syazwana Paisan, who graduated with a Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health. Hailing from Segamat, Johor, Noor Ikma aspires to pursue a career in the field of aviation safety upon the completion of her studies.

Nur Nazifa Abdul Azid was conferred the Chairman’s Award for graduating with first class honours in her chosen programme – Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Management. Nazifa, who originates from Terengganu has consistently remained steadfast in her studies, outperforming her peers every semester. Nazifah intends to pursue a Master in Business Administration and hopes to become a role model to her siblings.

Meanwhile, the Special Achievement Award was presented to 20 year old Perak-born Simon Wong Tian Bing. The Diploma in Automotive Technology holder was the winner of the Prime Minister Golden Hand Award 2018 and also won the Worldskills Malaysia Competition 2018 under the Youth Category (Automobile Technology). Wong was also a gold medal winner at the Worldskills Malaysia Belia (WSMB) 2018 under the Automobile Technology.  He graduated with a CGPA of 3.82.

In his royal address, His Majesty congratulated all the graduands for their success and hard work. He also encouraged them to pursue excellence in their chosen fields, while reminding them to give back to the university and community when they are capable of doing so.

The Vice Chancellor of DRB-HICOM U, Prof. Dato’ Sr. Dr Omar Osman said in his remarks to the graduands that good character is as important as knowledge and skills.

“In this Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) era, constantly upgrading your knowledge and skills is crucial to stay relevant. Each graduate and student is an extension of his/her university and therefore must seek to inculcate the principles of integrity, loyalty and honesty wherever they go.”

Besides offering various study programmes through its Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Faculty of Business and Management, the university also provides work training under its Corporate Training Institute (CTI). The institution houses 30 experienced and knowledgeable expert trainers from diverse fields to meet the increasing demands resulting from the rapid growth in the academic fields and various industries in Malaysia.

In moving towards The Internet of Things (IoT), certificates presented by DRB-HICOM U are now equipped with Pos Digicert’s e-Credentia solutions to prevent forgery. With this new feature, future employers can be assured of the authenticity of DRB-HICOM graduates’ certificates.
